Torture Chamber (aka The Gym)

Have you ever had a Best Friend that was also your Worst Enemy?

I do. It's name is "Elliptical Machine".

We met for the first time last night at the gym, while I was giving the evil eye to my former arch nemesis, The Treadmill. I knew it was meant to be because EM was sitting right in front of the monitor showing "The Simpsons". This my scientific method for choosing an exercise plan - which gym entertainment option offers the most distraction from the ensuing pain.

Anyways, I thought I'd just have a quick go at the EM - 30 minutes later I'd had a rockin' workout and felt great! I came home with a renewed feeling of hope for future workouts and a burning love in my heart for the EM.

Then I woke up this morning. In pain. Lots of and lots of pain.

To be honest, I'm totally embarassed to admit all of this because it tells you all just how out-of-shape I am. Oh well. As if you didn't already know. And if you should run into me in the next day or so, don't ask why I'm hobbling. Or whimpering. Or trying to buy illegal pain killers. (just kidding on that last one, Mom)

No worries - EM and I are not through. I will not be accused of having a one-nighter with my exercise equipment. EM still has a chance of getting in my good graces, unlike Treadmill, which exacts it's torture both during and after the workout and will forever be known as
Death on a Moving Belt.

Watch out, Elliptical Machine. As soon as I can feel my toes, I'm getting back on.

I don't believe EM and I have ever had a good encounter. I left him for my husband... :) And now my husband probably wishes I would leave him for the EM. :)

I am having an affair with water aerobics. My ass doesn't hurt after an hour. Neither do my joints. Or all my muscles. But apparently, the force of the water makes your body work like it was running a marathon. Without the pain. Or the sweat :-)

Lauren, if I don't stretch out before and after using the elliptical, I *always* feel beat up the next day. I feel like a dorky gym teacher, but stretching helps me out SO much.

Love you!
Your lost sis

I hear ya! Why does losing weight have to be such a process. Maybe this is why I am still working on the same 15 pounds I was working on 1.5 years ago... Sheesh!

Keep the faith, little one! EMMY will become your best friend--you just need to persist in taming her!

By the way, I laughed when you told me to "call" you about some baby food recipes...are you going to leave them on your answering machine for me? ;) j/k Hope all went well with the move. Can't wait to hear all about it and see some pictures!

You crack me up, but keep it up. Trust me, once you get over the pain of the first few weeks, you will be showing EM who is in charge.

I too had broken up with Mr. Treadmill, but after a long chat and a new workout program, we are slowly becoming friends again.
