All this month I knew the chaos of moving was looming in front of me, but I told myself I could take it slow, ease out of this house and into the next, while maintaining order and serenity. But it's pretty tough to maintain something you never had.
And now, as I the clock ticks speedily towards moving day and I survey the disaster surrounding me, there's no point in denying it: I'm in over my head here, peeps. Look, I know you all can't drop your lives to rush over and lay the smackdown on my severely mis-managed packing style, but at least impart some wisdom to this "moving virgin"! I need your BEST packing tips,
While I wait for your sage advice to roll in, let's cheer ourselves up with a few "great moments" in our time spent
These are 2005-2007

Just thought I'd show off the awesome brown shag we rolled around on for 3 years before it wore through completely and our landlord hooked us up with some new threads. Lots of fun times on that floor...
Also many good memories in the kitchen, where I indulged my bake-aholic tendencies. Jude was a happy little helper (and taster).
And then we brought Gabrielle home...
And fast friendships were made...

Elbows were broken...
Good Morning kisses were given out by the handful...

There were afternoon naps...
And some very hot days... (a west facing, split-entry with vaulted ceilings is pretty much a human oven)
There was the bumper cucumber crop of 2006...
Countless storytimes...

And lots and lots of tubbies.

And then we brought Merrick home, and our little family felt temporarily complete.
Sigh. All that living - if these wood-pannelled walls could talk!

I don't know if you read my moving/stressed/overwhelmed post last week, but some people left great tips there too--just in case you need backup! :)
one of my favorite tips was to do one room at a time. Clean it out, pack, and dejunk as much as possible--then move on. I think it makes me feel SO accomplished, seeing one huge project done and being able to move on to the next.
GOOD LUCK!!!
Moving STINKS it's so overwhelming. I'm not a super organized person, so I don't have good tips! But to make things easier, sometimes I'd just dump drawers into one box, like the kitchen junk drawer, I wouldn't even try to dejunk, I'd just stick it all in a box and label it "kitchen junk drawer" and then as you're putting it away at your new place you can throw stuff away THEN. that's not very good sorry! good luck!
Hey! Your little ones are so sweet!! I love reading your websites--so fun to see and hear what you are up to! We just moved and I'm trying to think of a good tip...all I can say is label, label, and label. The more I label things like boxes, the easier it is to find what I want to find amongst the sea of mess!
So I'd label every box by room it goes in, so that when people are helping load and unload, it all ends up where you want it, even if you don't get around to unpacking it very quickly.
And know that the "last load" will be much bigger thatn you expected, and take twice as long to pack as the rest did.
Email me if you want some help.
oh heavens! i hate moving! i so feel for you! i wish i had some brilliant thoughts, but i don't. i usually just dump everything in boxes and garbage bags.
How did I miss this post! Ugh! My reader fails me once again.
I love this. I love all the memories that a house can have. We moved about a year and a half ago...we were anxious to move...but we left behind a lot of memories, too. One of the hardest was our phone number. Because my dad had the voicemail message for it. And he passed away a few months before the move. That was difficult to leave his voice behind...
i loved looking at these cute pictures with the little fatties so young. i'm SO excited for your new house but even i got sentimental here looking at all of your pictures! here's to a new house with new memories! love you.
