I've had some serious domestic dilemmas lately that have started me wishing there was some sort of hotline I could ring when things go Kaboom around here. I would no doubt have it on speed-dial! Well until someone smarter than me invents it, I'm gonna list a few of my latest motherhood snaffus (just in case any of you can shed some light):
- I pull stuff out of Merrick's nostrils on a daily basis. I have no idea where this obsession came from, but it's really starting to freak me out! A few weeks ago he put a piece of corn up there during dinner, which we quickly removed. The next morning, he suddenly sneezed out another kernel! I'm super scared that something's gonna get jammed up there so far it will touch his brain and instantly kill him. Death by corn. Is that possible?

So many nostril-sized objects, so little time.
- There was an unfortunate fingernail polish incident that has left a bright pink spot on Gabby's cute yellow pants. I'm sure there's some random combination of household products (like toothpaste and superglue or whatever) that will magically make the stain disappear, but I have no clue what it is. Anybody?

She's smiling, but inside she's burning with shame
because mommy lacks laundry skills.
- After years of burning and drying out a great many chicken breasts, I now find myself on the flip side - I'm so paranoid about overcooking that I end up not cooking it well enough and have nearly poisoned Brett several times. I'm ready to declare us a vegetarian household, just to avoid the whole nasty business altogether. If anyone has the secret to perfectly cooked chicken, please share it and save us from a tragic life of tofu!

The woman who can't properly prepare chicken, and the man who may inadvertently die as a result.
Now that I've admitted my failings, I hope you'll speak up with any and all ideas.
Don't be shy and Don't be stingy, peeps -
my family needs your help!

Well, I don't think I can help with the nose motel or the fingernail polish, but I'll tell you how I cook my chicken.
So I am very particular about chicken. Basically, I hate grilled chicken and fried chicken. Plus when I prepare I hate touching raw chicken. So I just pull my chicken breasts out of the freezer and they go straight to a pot of boiling water. Then when they are good and cooked I will chop them up and use it accordingly. Also, crock pot recipes are winners too for the same reason. If I have to I have some baked chicken recipes, but I refuse to cut up raw chicken, so it is usually recipes that I can put the whole breast in the pan. I hope that helps. If you are a barbecue family, I can't help with that either, because I hate barbecued chicken. Wow, I'm picky huh?
Oh man! The comment above mine made me laugh! I am shocked she even attempts to eat chicken at ALL! :) Good ideas about the cooking in the water/crockpot. But honestly, if you want a good cooked chicken, make sure there's a little moisture--usually 45 minutes is good. I usually cover for half the time with foil and then uncover the rest.
And when grilling, low and slow works best for me. Flipping often--rebasting with the marinade every time. Juicy and flavorful.
But the other stuff, I am probably pretty clueless. You're a great mom...a loving mom...and that's what counts. :)
I am a big fan of crock pot for chicken and also the oven if I have time. One of our fav. recipes involves honey and soy sauce (forget exact recipe) and you baste and baste for an hour, but it's so delicious. The old stand-by is the crock pot with cream cheese, cream of chicken and spicy italian seasoning. When it's done after a couple hours, you put it over noodles. It's a kid/ hubby pleaser.
BTW, would still love to have another play date if ya'll want to come over!
Chicken breasts are challenging because they are thick. But not uniformly so. I always end up doing an internet search every time I make chicken to see how long and at what temperature. Because I never remember. It's sad. I do the same thing when I have to boil eggs, too.
As for the nail polish. I am sure that google could help ya out too.
When Brianna was about 2 she was always sticking stuff up her nose. Mostly Batting she would pull out of her pillows or dolls and baby wips. I would have to check her nose every time she go up from a nap. We took may visits to the peditrician office (thank heavens I have a ped that takes walk in's and has great hours) the nurses were always very impressed by how calm Bri was during the extraction. Little did they know I had to extract something myself almost every day, this time it was just higher than I felt comfortable digging.
As for the nail polish get some fabric paints and turn that spot into a flower. I have an embroidry sewing machine and I'm sewing stuff over spots all the time. But Fabric paint should work too.
